Rally For The People Event Set for May 2
A public rally and barbecue, “Rally For The People,” will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at 116 W. Fourth St. in Cameron.
The event will give voters an opportunity to hear from candidates running for office this year.
Communities expected to be represented include Cameron, Hamilton, Gallatin, Maysville, Bethany, Trenton, Osborn, Stewartsville and Savannah.
Guest speakers will include Jess Piper, executive director of Blue Missouri; and Will Westmoreland, a Missouri farmer and advocate for rural issues.
Candidates scheduled to speak include Josh Smead, candidate for Missouri’s 6th Congressional District; Gena Puckett, candidate for the Missouri House District 9, which includes Cameron, Maysville and Savannah; and Casey Scott, candidate for Missouri House District 2, which includes Hamilton, Gallatin, Bethany and Trenton.
Piper is described as a speaker who focuses on challenges facing rural communities, including rural health care, public schools and the rural economy. She lives in northwest Missouri and is a former teacher.
Westmoreland serves as executive director of Back Forty Action and is a member of the People’s Cabinet for Rural America. He is described as a rural advocate, political strategist and small farmer who travels the country advocating for sustainable agriculture, rural health care and economic opportunity.
Smead will appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballot. The general election will be held Nov. 3. Organizers said candidates also will take questions from the audience during the rally.
