Strong serving and contributions throughout the lineup helped Trenton’s volleyball team sweep Penney, with the Bulldogs regaining their focus after an uneven second set to finish the match in three.

Trenton won 25-10, 25-17, 25-13, combining a balanced statistical effort with the ability to work through moments of frustration.

Sarai Birkhead, Lillee Dalrymple, Emma Gifford and Alexis Bonnett each recorded four aces, giving the Bulldogs 16 aces among the four players. Birkhead also contributed seven assists and 10 digs, while Peyton Curd matched her with seven assists. Riah Vehikite finished with eight kills and two blocks.

Trenton’s coach said the statistics reflected contributions across the lineup, with little separation between the team’s statistical leaders.

“The girls did a nice job staying focused last night to get the win,” Trenton’s coach Brad Ewald said.

After taking the opening set by a comfortable margin, the Bulldogs faced some frustration with their own execution in the second. They worked through it to take a two-set lead, then closed out the sweep with another double-digit set victory.

“In the second set, you could tell that they were getting a little frustrated that we weren’t playing quite as crisp as we would like, but they shook it off, got back to playing for each other, and finished the game well,” the coach said.

This brings Trenton’s record to 3-5-2.
