Pirates Split Doubleheader Against Metropolitan CC
North Central Missouri College baseball went on the road last week and earned a split against Metropolitan Community College in a doubleheader.
NCMC’s overall record now stands at 19-20, with another pair of games scheduled against the Wolves on Saturday at Burleigh Grimes Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
Game 1
NCMC rallied for an 8-7 victory in the opener, using timely hitting and late offense to secure the win.
The Pirates were powered by a standout performance from Leonel Dominguez, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. His biggest hit came in the top of the seventh inning, when he launched a three-run home run to tie the game.
Jose Bedoya also went deep, finishing 1-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Eduardo Chourio contributed on both sides of the ball, collecting two hits and later pitching a scoreless inning to earn his sixth save of the season.
JP Gonzalez added a double and an RBI, while Javier Suarez scored twice to help spark the offense.
On the mound, Max Wagers worked through seven innings to earn the win. He struck out one and allowed seven runs before turning the game over to Chourio, who closed out the comeback victory.
Game 2
Despite recording 13 hits, including three home runs, the Pirates fell 12-8 in the second game.
A pair of big innings by Metropolitan proved too much for NCMC to overcome.
JP Gonzalez led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Koby Wagers added a 2-for-4 performance with a home run and three RBIs.
Jose Bedoya continued his strong day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs, while Leonel Dominguez added three hits. Ethan Shupe also contributed two hits and drove in a pair of runs as NCMC scored in four different innings.
On the mound, Luis Leon struck out three over 2.1 innings. However, the Pirates’ pitching staff was hurt by two Metropolitan home runs and defensive miscues. Four errors extended innings and contributed to the 12 runs allowed.
