Trenton Battles Lawson On Senior Night

Trenton put together nine hits and rallied late Tuesday, May 5, but the Bulldogs came up short in a 7-4 varsity baseball loss to Lawson on senior night.

The Bulldogs were led at the plate by Graeme Sager, Matthew Bowden and Caleb Dixon, who each finished with two hits. Trenton totaled four runs on nine hits and battled back after falling behind early.

Lawson scored one run in the first inning and another in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Trenton answered in the fourth inning after a sequence of hits from Bowden, Jacob White, Dixson, Chase Foster and Royce Selway for Trenton to gain three runs to move in front 3-2.

The Cardinals tied the game with one run in the fifth before scoring four runs in the seventh to regain control. Trenton continued to fight in the bottom half of the inning, adding one run before the comeback came up short.

Sager went 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored for the Bulldogs. Bowden also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored.

Dixon added two hits and scored a run. Camden Skipper had a double, while Chase Foster, Ayden Ortega and Skipper each added hits. Selway drove in a run, and Foster also finished with an RBI.

White started on the mound and pitched most of seven innings, filling in for the Miller and Skipper heading into districts against Lawson. On the night he allowed eight hits, six runs, two earned runs and four walks while striking out three. Elijah Miller recorded the final out, striking out one batter.

Trenton’s nine hits included extra-base hits from Sager and Skipper. The Bulldogs also held Lawson scoreless in the third, fourth and sixth innings.

Following the game, the team celebrated senior night and recognized Selway, Miller, Foster and Bowden.

This brings Trenton’s record to 10-8 with upcoming games against Newtown Harris on Monday, May 11 and the first round of district play on May 18 against Lawson.
