Awards from the Rock Barn area of this year’s North Central Missouri Fair have been announced, recognizing youth and adult exhibitors in categories ranging from gardening and food preservation to woodworking, quilting, arts and crafts.

Although the overall number of exhibits was lower than last year, Rock Barn Superintendent Carol Ausberger said the quality of the entries remained consistently above average. Weather conditions earlier in the year affected garden productivity.

Thirty youth displayed their skills through entries submitted by members of the general public, local FFA chapters and area 4-H clubs.

Two youth competed in the Special Woodworking category. Awards were determined based on overall quality, creativity and complexity, with each participant receiving a cash prize.

Bailey Williams entered a noodle board, while Carson Kaysinger displayed a planter box.

Youth ribbon recipients were: Claire Woodard, four blue ribbons; Bailey Williams, eight blue ribbons and a Special Woodworking Award; Geneva Harvey, two blue ribbons; Ezra Harvey, two blue ribbons; Layla Woodard, two blue ribbons; Kennedy Swan, six blue ribbons and the Loretta Ray Canning Award; Everly Bethards, one blue ribbon; Macy Lowrey, six blue ribbons; Tyson Lowrey, six blue ribbons and one red ribbon; Christopher Couture, one blue ribbon; Madelyn Glidewell, two red ribbons; Bryan Glidewell, one blue ribbon; Carson Beverlin, 11 blue ribbons; Cole Beverlin, three blue ribbons; Zella Lamma, one blue ribbon; Morgan McClain, one blue ribbon; Izzy Burton, one blue ribbon; Todd Burton, one blue ribbon; Kathryn Martin, one blue ribbon; Colt Swindler, four blue ribbons and one red ribbon; Duke Swindler, three blue ribbons and two red ribbons; and Riley Michael, one blue ribbon.

FFA exhibitors represented an assortment of area chapters.

Kaysinger received one blue ribbon and a Special Woodworking Award for his planter box. Leah Carver received one blue ribbon; Landon Olmstead, one red ribbon; Kallie Clark, one blue ribbon and one white ribbon; Andrew Schreiner, one blue ribbon; Carven Crawford, one blue ribbon and Grand Champion honors in the soybean plant category; Kimber Woodworth, one blue ribbon and Reserve Champion honors in the soybean plant category; and Carman Woodworth, one red ribbon.

The Loretta Ray Award, presented to the youth entering the most canned items, will be awarded to Kennedy Swan. She will also receive a $20 cash prize.

Eleven exhibitors participated in the adult division, submitting canned goods, quilts, woodworking projects, arts and crafts and other homemaking entries.

Adult ribbon recipients were Loretta Ray, 10 blue ribbons and two red ribbons; Janice Belvel, one red ribbon; Megan Miller, two blue ribbons and Special Woodworking recognition; Lana Snider, three blue ribbons; Karen Rorebeck, three blue ribbons; Michelle Smith, two blue ribbons and five red ribbons; Alvin Smith, two blue ribbons; Twyla Johnson, 12 blue ribbons and one Outstanding or Judge’s Choice Award; Barbara Tunnell, one blue ribbon and two red ribbons; Hilsabeck Honey Farm, two blue ribbons; and James Ross, four red ribbons.

Senior Horticulture Division

Senior Horticulture Division judging was held Tuesday, July 28, during the North Central Missouri Fair.

Twyla Johnson of Spickard entered 10 exhibits and received one blue ribbon, six red ribbons and one white ribbon.

Marie Johnson of Spickard entered nine exhibits and received six blue ribbons, one red ribbon and two white ribbons.

Caleb Ray of Trenton entered four exhibits and received three blue ribbons and one red ribbon.

Lortie “Lottie” Ray received one red ribbon.
