Radio Station History Feature of Rotary Program

Local radio station KTTN was the topic of a program presented to the Trenton Rotary Club when members met Thursday, May 7, in the BTC Bank community room.

John Anthony, a longtime Rotary member and current owner of KTTN with his wife, Carol, shared information about the radio station, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2025.

The station first went on the air as an AM station April 17, 1955. Programming originally aired from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Sam Burk, who owned a radio station in Kirksville, was one of the original owners.

KTTN joined the FM side of the radio dial at 92.2 in 1978, eventually moving to 92.3. Having an FM channel allowed KTTN to provide weather updates in the evening when needed, as well as air election results and broadcast ball games.

Clarence Brazeal bought KTTN in 1963, later selling it to Marvin Luehrs and his father-in-law in 1968. Longtime News Director Tom Mock joined the radio station in 1966. Anthony came on board in 1973, working in news and playing records.

Anthony, Tim Peery and Mike Ransdell purchased the radio station in 1992 as PAR Broadcasting. Anthony and his wife became sole owners in 2002.

In addition to KTTN AM and FM, the company also includes KGOZ 101.7 FM and 98.3 FM, which broadcasts the same programming as 1600 AM.

Anthony said the station has five full-time and five part-time staff members.
