Trenton Plans Full Day Of Fourth Of July Activities

Ahead of the Independence Day Community Fireworks Show in Trenton, the city is accepting donations for the display.
Trenton residents will have several opportunities to celebrate Independence Day as the city, local businesses and community organizations prepare a full day of Fourth of July activities, concluding with the annual community fireworks display.
Ahead of the celebration, the City of Trenton is accepting donations to help fund the fireworks show and continue the annual community tradition.
Donations may be mailed or delivered to Trenton City Hall, 1100 Main St., Trenton, MO 64683. Those contributing by check should write “fireworks” in the memo line.
“Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated and will help ensure this community tradition continues for years to come,” Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kayla Graham said in an event release.
This year’s celebration will feature much more than fireworks. Events will begin during the morning at Eastside Park and continue throughout the afternoon and evening. Activities will include food, swimming, children’s crafts, patriotic displays, live music and opportunities to support local organizations.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will begin selling ice cream at 10 a.m. from the west shelter house at Eastside Park. Ice cream will be available for $3 per scoop.
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution will join the VFW at the shelter house and distribute American flags and patriotic pinwheels to visitors. The Trenton library will also be stationed at the west shelter house, where children and families can create patriotic buttons to wear during the celebration.
Main Street Trenton’s Farmers Market will be set up on the west lawn at Eastside Park. The market will give residents an opportunity to visit local vendors while taking part in the morning’s holiday activities.
The Elks Lodge will host a community barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the east shelter house. Meals will cost $10, with proceeds benefiting the Grundy County Senior Center.
The barbecue will allow residents to enjoy a holiday meal while supporting the senior center and its services for older adults in the community.
Families looking for a way to cool off during the afternoon may visit the Trenton Family Aquatic Center. The Trenton Park Department and the city will offer admission for $1 per person during the afternoon.
Additional food options will arrive later in the day. The Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce has organized 11 food vendors for the celebration. Vendors are scheduled to arrive beginning at 3 p.m. and will remain on-site until after the fireworks display.
BTC Bank will provide a mobile ATM at the event, allowing visitors to access cash without leaving the celebration. The bank will also provide canopies and tables for use during the festivities.
As the evening approaches, David Burkebile will play patriotic music from the Trenton High School parking lot. The music will help set the stage for the evening celebration as residents gather for the fireworks.
The Daughters of the American Revolution will also continue a local patriotic tradition by placing American flags around the Grundy County Courthouse. Members will put up and remove the flags, weather permitting.
Activities throughout the day will offer residents a variety of ways to celebrate, from ice cream, crafts and the farmers market to a community barbecue, discounted swimming, food vendors and patriotic music.
The day will conclude with the community fireworks display, bringing together local organizations and residents for Trenton’s annual Fourth of July celebration. Community members who would like to help support the display may contribute through Trenton City Hall.
