How Pruning Plants Relates to Life
Town And Country Garden Club Meets
Submitted
The Town and Country Garden Club met on Monday, October 27, in the home of Mary Helen Richardson in Galt. Fifteen ladies were present including Barb Peterson, Nedra Stephenson, Melody Shipley, Naomi Starkebaum, Beverly May, Sharon Berry, Judy Meeker, Mary Ann Hubble, Barbara Griff, Carol Wilford, Kris Smith, Bev Kimberling, Lois Corrigan, Judy Jackson, and Mary Helen Richardson.
Carol Wilford had an opening devotion called To Garden—Whatever it Takes. It compared a plant’s life to a person’s life. Pruning dead, diseased or unfruitful parts of a plant would be the same idea as trimming away the same type of things in a person’s life, with the goal being to seek a greater harvest as a result.
Barb Peterson gave the lesson on Ornamental Grasses. She discussed many varieties and brought samples of a few. The species of grasses included: pampas, Cheyenne Sky, bluestem, Japanese sedge, zebra, Oktoberfest, fountain, Vertigo, maiden, switchgrass, Chinese Silver, Indiangrass and Northern Sea Oat.
A sign-up sheet was passed around for the ladies to do a lesson or be a host for the meetings throughout the year. Kris Smith brought bulbs of Red Dahlias to share. Refreshments were served as the group continued to share gardening ideas and plans.
There will be no November meeting, therefore, the next garden club meeting will be in the home of Naomi Starkebaum on Monday, December 8, at 1:30 pm. Each member is to bring money or canned goods to donate to the Food Pantry, as well as one dozen cookies or other treats to exchange with members and guests who attend the December meeting.
