The Trenton Bulldogs put together an eight-run effort Monday, April 20, but came up short in an 11-8 loss to the Maysville Wolverines.
Trenton finished with 11 hits and matched Maysville in that category, but seven Bulldogs errors proved costly as Maysville capitalized on extra opportunities to secure the win.
The Bulldogs trailed 5-2 after four innings before putting together their strongest stretch of the game in the fifth. Trenton scored three runs in the inning to tie the contest at 5-5 and stayed within striking distance the rest of the way.
Maysville answered with two runs in the sixth and added four more in the seventh to regain control. Trenton responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally ended with the Bulldogs still three runs short.
Jacob White led Trenton at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBIs, a double and a walk. Graeme Sager added two hits and scored twice, while Ayden Ortega collected two hits and an RBI.
Camden Skipper contributed a hit and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Caleb Dixon added a hit and an RBI, and Dru Vandevender also drove in a run.
Trenton showed aggressiveness on the bases throughout the game. Elijah Miller stole two bases while Sager, White and Kaydan Foster each added a stolen base.
On the mound, Skipper got the start for Trenton and Miller later took over in relief. Skipper threw 109 pitches, including 71 strikes, while Miller threw 37 pitches with 23 strikes.
Maysville totaled 11 runs on 10 hits and was led by Carter Harms, who had two hits and four RBIs, including a home run. Mac White added three hits, while Bo Zeikle drove in a run and also pitched for the Wolverines.
Although the Bulldogs matched Maysville with 11 hits and produced balanced offense throughout the lineup, defensive miscues made the difference in the loss.
As of press time, Trenton is 7-5 on the season. The Bulldogs were then scheduled to play Meadville on Wednesday, April 22, Marceline on Thursday, April 23 and will take on Gilman City Friday, April 24.
