The Trenton High School Drama Club held its production of “Eclipse” on April 24, offering audiences a comedic look at a variety of 1994-inspired characters and cultural moments set during a solar eclipse.

Ethan Shell and Braxton Wilson opened the production as news reporters, setting the scene for the eclipse as people around the country gathered to watch the rare event.

The production featured several scenes that blended humor, nostalgia and exaggerated personalities.

Jayla Bell and Selena Hansen appeared in a scene discussing the possibility of aliens, with Brittian Rupert appearing as an alien during the exchange.

Ethan Shell, Rupert and Carly Rupe performed comedic reenactments centered on teenage love, while another scene featured Hansen as a movie director attempting to get the obnoxious Dirk Dauntless to save the day during a staged train robbery before the solar eclipse.

In the scene “Come To My Window,” Wilson played a window washer trying to win over Emma Gifford, who played a doctor. Amaya White and Caleb brought humor to the introduction of the World Wide Web through a RadioShack-themed scene.

Ashlyn Pagel and Gifford portrayed two friends whose lives had taken different paths, with one embracing a grunge style and the other becoming preppy. Jerielle Stark also drew laughs as an over-the-top girlfriend on a date with Ethan.

Toward the end of the production, James Chamberlin played a homeless man who helped show why Stark’s character should stop being a rebellious youth. In another scene, Pagel, Bell and Dixie Sager highlighted just how ridiculous hair and fashion could get in the 1990s.

The production included several other scenes highlighting the cast’s comedic timing and range.

The backstage crew included Brandilyn Brittain, Carrie Stretch, Lily Golden, Daniel Newton, Nicki Lamp, Scout Wilson and Zayden Luna.

The performance gave students a chance to showcase their creativity, comedic timing and stage presence while bringing a wide range of 1990s-inspired scenes to life.
