Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Set For May 9
The 34th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, giving residents an easy way to support local food pantries and families in need.
As the nation’s largest single-day food drive, the event encourages households to leave non-perishable food donations by their mailbox before their regular mail delivery. Letter carriers will collect the items along their routes and deliver them to local food banks, pantries and shelters.
Community members who wish to participate are asked to place donations in a sturdy bag, such as one provided by their mail carrier. Suggested items include canned soup, peanut butter, rice, pasta and canned vegetables.
Organizers ask that residents avoid donating fresh or homemade foods, as well as items packaged in glass.
The drive comes at a critical time of year for food assistance programs. With schools closed during the summer months, many families lose access to school-based meal programs, increasing the demand on local food resources.
By taking part, residents can help ensure food shelves remain stocked and accessible for those who rely on them.
For additional information, individuals are encouraged to contact their local NALC branch or post office.
