More than 150 volunteers recognized by Green Hills program
Green Hills Volunteer Program recognized area volunteers Friday, April 24, during an appreciation event.
The event brought together 93 people and honored 159 volunteers, who contributed a combined 23,410 hours of community service in the past year. Those hours represent work given to local programs, agencies and organizations that rely on volunteers to help serve residents and support community needs.
Edna Foster was recognized for serving as director of the Green Hills Volunteer Program for the past 25 years. The recognition was presented by Grundy County Council on Aging Board President Gary Shuett and Green Hills Advisory Council members Deloris Newton and Max Dickerson.
Foster’s years of service were highlighted as part of the program’s overall celebration of volunteerism and the impact that dedicated individuals can have when they give their time to others.
Dinner for the event was catered by Great Western Dining and served by girls from the American Heritage Group with the Assembly of God Church.
This year’s theme was Dr. Seuss, tying the evening’s message to the importance of caring for others and taking action in the community. The program included the quote, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
The quote reflected the purpose of the evening.
