Cody Oshel, a public service leader with ties across northern Missouri, has announced his candidacy as a Republican for Missouri’s 6th Congressional District.

Oshel’s professional career has taken him throughout the district over the past 14 years. He has served in multiple pastoral roles within the Missouri United Methodist Church, including senior pastor positions in Weston, Stanberry and Kirksville, as well as associate and leadership roles in the St. Joseph area.

He currently works in strategic growth partnerships and brand activation at Thrivent Financial, where he supports Christian communities, businesses and economic growth across Missouri and beyond.

Oshel has received Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow award, been recognized as a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City Most Wanted honoree, served as vice president of the Kansas-Missouri region of Thrivent’s Member Network, and is a former board president and board member of The Crossing Outreach in St. Joseph.

Oshel said northern Missouri deserves a representative with deep local roots, proven servant leadership and a commitment to Missouri families and farms.

“As John Winthrop once preached and President Reagan referenced, I believe we are a society that needs to live in service for each other,” Oshel said.

“It is our representative’s responsibility to set an example and serve as a ‘city upon a hill.’ I aim to brighten the light that seems to have dimmed over time,” he said.

Oshel described himself as a leader who listens first.

“When I first arrived at my new church appointments, I always made sure to listen first,” Oshel said.

“I do the same thing now in my corporate role, listening to the needs of nonprofits and multimillion-dollar companies to learn how I can help,” he said.

He said he is committed to servant leadership and wants the values of district residents to be heard in Washington. As part of his campaign, Oshel plans to conduct a listening tour across the district to meet with citizens, hear their stories and listen to their concerns.

A seventh-generation resident of northern Missouri, Oshel said his family has long called the region home. He lives in Maryville with his wife, Jessica, their sons, Alister and Shepherd, and their dogs, Cash and Linguini.
