The Trenton Bulldogs came off a successful weekend but ran into a tough Carrollton Trojan squad Monday evening, falling 13-2 in varsity baseball action.
Trenton now sits at 2-2 on the season through its first four games. The Bulldogs opened play March 19 with a narrow 11-10 loss to Cameron in a back-and-forth contest. They responded with a strong showing on March 21, defeating Brookfield 8-2 and Green City 18-9 behind productive offensive efforts.
Carrollton set the tone early Monday, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the fourth. The Trojans then broke the game open late, plating two runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
The Bulldogs’ offense found some life in the third inning, scoring both of their runs, but struggled the rest of the game and finished with just one hit.
Camden Skipper recorded Trenton’s lone hit and drove in one run, while Matthew Bowden added an RBI. Graeme Sager and Elijah Miller each crossed the plate for the Bulldogs.
As a team, Trenton totaled two runs on one hit, drew three walks and struck out seven times.
Carrollton finished with 13 runs on 11 hits and capitalized on scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Defensively, Trenton committed three errors compared to one by Carrollton.
The Bulldogs are coached by head coach David Shockley, assisted by Brad Ewald and Jon Gutherie. Team managers Lillian Ortega and Betsy Price also contribute to the program.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs have shown offensive potential early in the season and will look to build on their 2-2 start in upcoming games.
