Local Eye Doctor Named Optometrist of Year

On Oct. 10, local Premier Eyecare Associates’ Kevin Harris was awarded the 2026 Missouri Optometric Association Lee Ann Barrett Distinguished Legacy Award for Optometrist of the Year.

This award is given annually to a Missouri optometrist who embodies leadership, service, professional accomplishment, and clinical excellence.

Harris joined Premier Eyecare Associates in 2011 after completing his master’s in healthcare administration, doctorate of optometry and a residency in ocular disease and low vision. He practices primary eye care in Trenton, Brookfield and Kirksville, but also maintains a specialty low-vision practice in Trenton.

“Harris has devoted years to serving not only his patients, but the profession of optometry in the state of Missouri, serving as North Optometric Society trustee, North Optometric Society president and president of the Missouri Optometric Association, where he was integral in forming relationships with legislators and improving rural patient access to eye care,” reads a release about the award. “He also serves in several other local capacities, through his church, civic organizations, Rotary, the Wright Memorial Hospital Foundation, overseas mission work and numerous volunteer efforts. He is always finding a way to bless others.”
