Staff report
Families were out and about in Trenton this past weekend as the Missouri Day Festival was in full swing.
The annual event, which ran Friday and Saturday Oct. 16 and 17 with some related events taking place Oct. 18, featured shopping with area vendors, family activities, a marching band competition, petting zoo, museum exhibits, food vendors, a children’s coloring contest and more. The Trenton Chamber of Commerce organizes the festival each year and this year’s theme was “Stars, Stripes and Show-Me Pride.”
Trenton chamber Executive Director Kayla Graham said the festival had something for everyone, including those with different needs.
“We’re going to have the PAWS sensory trailer, which stands for Pediatric Autism and Wellness Services,” Graham said ahead of the festival. “It’s a trailer that kids and parents can go through.”
There was also inflatables, face painting, hair penciling and a baby show. Nearby Crowder State Park also had free public fall bus tours.
According to the chamber, the Missouri Day Festival, held every third weekend in October, is Trenton’s second-largest event.

Band competition
In the marching band competition, dozens of bands from schools across Missouri and Kansas participated in divisions based on size. Bands competed in a variety of categories that included parade, indoor auxiliary, indoor drumline and field show. Bands were evaluated on music, marching and maneuvering, general effect and field auxiliary.
After judges’ scores were tabulated, awards were presented in C.F. Russell Stadium. Trophies were awarded to the top three of each class in their respective events along with a best-in-class field auxiliary award. The Hannaford sweepstakes trophy was awarded to the band with the highest cumulative score from all events throughout the day.
