The Trenton FFA Meats Evaluation Team competed at the Western National Roundup meats judging contest Jan. 10 at Colorado State University, earning an eighth-place finish overall against top teams from across the country.

The team was also recognized as the national champion and high-scoring team in retail meat identification, posting a score of 618 out of a possible 630 points.

In the competition, team members evaluated carcass, wholesale and retail meat classes; yield- and quality-graded beef carcasses; and completed a meat industry knowledge test along with a meat product formulation scenario.

Trenton qualified for the Western National Roundup by placing second at the Missouri State FFA Meats Judging Contest in April at the University of Missouri.
