Members of the Trenton High School Class of 1967 gathered at El Toros on November 14 for their monthly reunion, celebrating decades of friendship, shared memories, and their enduring connection to Trenton schools. The gathering was filled with stories, laughter, and a special nod to the unique language of the current youth.
In a funny coincidence, attendees honored Dictionary.com’s word of the year, “67,” a nod to their graduation year and a slang term that kids are using to mean “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that,” or oftentimes meaning nothing at all, and said with expressive hand gestures. The group reminisced about popular slang words from their era, such as “sweet,” “cool,” “far out,” “fly” and “right on,” reflecting on how these phrases shaped their high school days and sometimes baffled teachers and parents alike.
The reunion also included a thoughtful discussion about the recent end of penny minting, with members sharing “A penny for their thoughts,” offering their perspectives and memories.
The group reaffirmed their commitment to giving back by discussing their scholarship fund for Trenton High School’s upcoming May Senior Night, continuing their tradition of supporting the next generation of students.
The Class of 1967 plans to keep their tradition alive, meeting on the second Friday of every month, and cherishing the bonds that have stood the test of time.
