North Central Missouri Mental Health Center Food Drive

As the holiday season nears, fear is rising among families across north Missouri who depend on SNAP (food stamp) benefits. With no government assistance expected to go out in November, many households are facing an unthinkable question — how will we eat our next meal?

In response, the North Central Missouri Mental Health Center (NCMMHC) has stepped up to help. The organization has launched a community-wide food drive to collect nonperishable food items and monetary donations for local food pantries, hoping to fill the gap left by the funding delay.

“This is terrifying for people who rely on this assistance,” said Vicki Jane Diggs, a caseworker of NCMMHC. “Our small communities can help each other in times of need. If everyone plays a small part, we can get through this together.”

Donations are being accepted now through Nov. 14, 2025, at all NCMMHC offices — Brookfield, Chillicothe, and Trenton. In Chillicothe, items may be dropped off at 401 Youssef Drive, just north of Max Curnow dealership. In Trenton, the office is located at 1601 East 28th Street. The Brookfield office is at 1102 W Helm just down from the YMCA building.

Every can, every box, and every small donation makes a difference. Food collected through the drive will be distributed directly to local food pantries, ensuring that help stays close to home.

“NCMMHC wants to do our part to help with the current food crisis,” Diggs said.

Monetary donations are also being accepted at each NCMMHC. Those wishing to contribute can contact Amy in Trenton at 660-359-4487; DeAnna in Chillicothe at 660-646-6872, or Jenny in Brookfield at 660-258-7810 for more information.

In a time when fear and uncertainty could easily take over, this effort is a reminder that north Missouri’s greatest strength has always been its people — neighbors looking out for neighbors. Together, the region can ensure that no one goes hungry this November and throughout the government shutdown.
