The Trenton City Council discussed expanding the downtown social district to include more businesses for events that allow open containers.
The plan was set up to balance economic participation with public safety-particularly regarding traffic on main streets. The proposal will move to the administrative committee for further review.
Departmental and committee reports included updates on new way-finding signs, progress on utility projects, like water plant repairs and filter replacements and improved lodging tax collection. The police department also received a $50,000 grant for new in-car computers.
Three ordinances were passed: a contract for water basin roof repair, airport improvement funding, and a contract for an OSP update.
Concerns were raised about a backlog in nuisance code enforcement cases; the prosecutor acknowledged the issue and outlined plans to resolve it.
The Mayor brought up plans to discuss how Trenton can help the community in the absence of SNAP during November with a community meeting planned for Thursday at BTC Bank.
Scott Sharp was appointed to the building and nuisance board.
The council approved bids for water plant projects and an additional employee in the electric generation department, citing reliability and potential budget savings as reasons to add the employee.
The council discussed revising business license rules and announced an upcoming informational webinar for the topic .
