Trenton Tales from Julie Hill Lehr

A Column About How Trenton Lives, Works and Plays
Have you ever cheered for the Trenton High School Bulldogs at C.F. Russell stadium? Or enjoyed dinner at Washington Street or taken a hike at Crowder State Park? Have you watched a movie at the Trenton Cinema, ridden to the top of the Ferris wheel at the North Central Missouri Fair, or listened to a concert at the Mid-America Music Festival? If you have done any of those things you probably live in Trenton Missouri or nearby.
Hello Trenton. It’s Julie Hill Lehr and I’m very excited to let you know that the Trenton Telegraph has asked me to write a monthly column featuring Trenton. And it’s more than you may realize.
I grew up in Trenton, so many of you already know me. I’m the daughter of Patsy McCracken Hill, registered nurse, who worked at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton Junior College (now North Central Missouri College, NCMC), and was the school nurse for the R-IX School District for more than two decades. My Dad was Richard Hill, a local entrepreneur in the car industry.
I graduated from Trenton High School and spent my freshman year of college at Trenton Junior College. I finished my bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia and also earned my Master of Arts degree there.
Though I live in Wisconsin now, I’ve always made it a priority to come home. Trenton Tales gives me the chance to give back to the community and to highlight people, places and events that make Trenton a fantastic place to live, work and play.
That’s where you come in. The community deserves to be celebrated. It’s not just those in political office, or business owners, or people you hear about on KTTN, it’s about all of you who make up the community. It’s the businesses that you support, the clubs that serve the community, the teachers who broaden young minds. You are the people I want to celebrate in this column.
I have lots of ideas of people I know in Trenton and nearby that we could feature, but I want to hear from you about people, business or events that deserve recognition. If you have an idea to share, please email me at the Trenton Telegraph to editor Gabe Stark at gstark@cherryroad.com. If you have a person or business who deserves recognition, I’ll need their name, email and phone number, and a sentence or two about why we should recognize them. Make sure they agree to be featured in this column before you send me their information. Don’t wait, send us your ideas now.
We are looking forward to hearing from many of you and discovering your ideas. We are flexible on what goes into this column. We would also love to see your photos of people, places and events we are celebrating to accompany the articles.
Perhaps I was destined to end up in Wisconsin still celebrating Trenton. There is a strong Missouri – Wisconsin connection. The THS fight song is, “On Wisconsin”. The Kansas City Chiefs played the Green Bay Packers in the first Super Bowl and who hasn’t stopped by Hy Vee to pick up some delicious Wisconsin cheese?
I can’t wait to see our celebrations of Trenton!!
