Trenton Telegraph launches to tell community stories

I never pictured myself being a reporter.
A financial advisor, city administrator, banker – many things have come to mind – but never a reporter.
I grew up in Trenton and have never known anything different. As most do, I went to school in the district and quickly became involved in as many activities as I could. I was student body president, football captain, even prom king. I loved being a part of the circle I was in. I graduated from high school and attended NCMC, and continued being involved as president of the Business Club, attending student senate meetings every other week.
I got my degree and wondered what the next step of my life was, what my purpose was going to be. Well, through what could only be God’s intervention, the mayor called me on a random Tuesday and offered me a summer job working as an intern in the basement of City Hall.
While working for the city, my love for the community grew even more, and I decided that I wanted to continue serving my city in whatever capacity I could. For me, there was nothing more fulfilling than going to City council meetings, doing building inspections, and getting to meet people that I wouldn’t otherwise get to interact with, who all had interesting stories. Different lives, different worries, different passions.
Every person I met had their own experiences, and everyone shared them in their own unique ways. I thought that this was the job for me and saw myself doing it for a long time. However, the summer ended, and with it my employment.
What’s next? An offer for a job that I had never considered.
CherryRoad Media, the publisher of your new local newspaper right here in Trenton, needed someone who really cared about what was going on in our small town in rural Missouri. They wanted to connect and inform everyone in town with the hyper-local news that folks really care about that really impacts daily lives.
I couldn’t resist such a great opportunity.
So, no, I may not have ever pictured myself being a reporter, but now I’m committed to doing whatever is in my power to make Trenton as great as it can be – and that starts with connecting with all of you to tell your stories.
If you see me in town and you have something you want to share, stop me and tell me all about it. Or if you don’t want to wait until you see me wandering around the neighborhood, contact me at GStark@cherryroad.com or call or text at 660-654-0926.
