NCMC Track And Field Team Turns In Strong Showing At CMU Invite

The NCMC track and field team traveled to Central Methodist University in Fayette for the CMU Invite, a competitive two-day meet held April 2-3. Competing against strong programs, the squad delivered an impressive weekend filled with personal bests, season bests and standout performances across both track and field events.

On the track, the sprint group highlighted the meet with breakthrough performances. Jamari Ervin led the way in the 100 meters, clocking a personal-record time of 12.40 seconds to place 10th overall. Not far behind, Cierra Stigger also set a personal best in the 100, finishing in 12.71 seconds as she continued her strong progression this season. The women’s 4×100 relay also showed improvement, setting a personal-record time of 49.57 with Ervin, Stigger, Kate Jones and Adeline Dickerson.

In the 400, the men’s squad showed depth and determination. Nate Giffin turned in a season-best time of 51.58 seconds, while Daimond Kangiela recorded a personal-best 53.74, marking a significant milestone in his development.

Distance standout Abby Jones made a strong impression in her debut appearances in both the 1,500 and 800. She finished 10th in the 1,500 with a time of 5:13.64 and added a solid 2:38.47 effort in the 800.

In the field events, the team continued to build momentum with strong results. Giffin added to his weekend by placing second in the pole vault, while Genesis Bethea won the high jump. Allise Perkins also turned in a standout performance, placing fifth in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 1.52 meters.

Overall, the CMU Invite was a successful outing for the NCMC track and field team, showcasing growth, resilience and competitive spirit across all event groups. With multiple personal and season bests achieved, NCMC continues to build momentum as the outdoor season progresses.
