Pirates Men’s Golf Places First at Maryville

The North Central Missouri College men’s golf team traveled to Maryville on Friday to compete in a three-team, 18-hole event hosted at the par-72 Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
NCMC turned in a strong performance, with the Pirate A team tying for first place out of five teams with Southwestern Community College after posting a team score of 289.
Kaleb Groomer led the Pirates with a 3-under-par 69, carding nine-hole splits of 35 and 34. Dylan Groomer and Jorge Gomez each finished with even-par rounds of 72. Dylan Groomer posted an impressive 3-under 33 on his front nine, while Jorge Gomez closed with a 4-under 32 on the back nine.
Alvaro Alegria and Guillermo Gomez each shot rounds of 76. Guillermo Gomez recorded four birdies during the round, while Alegria added two birdies.
The NCMC B team also had a solid day, finishing third with a team score of 301. Lucas Schussler led that group with a 73, recording five birdies and nine-hole splits of 37 and even-par 36.
Grant Leamer followed with a 74 and collected 14 pars during his round. Lucas Viertaler and Riley Gott each shot 77. Gott recorded pars on 13 of 18 holes, while Viertaler finished with four birdies and nine-hole splits of 41 and 36.
The Pirate men and the NCMC women’s golf team will return to Maryville on March 27-28 to compete in the Graceland Spring Invitational. The shotgun start at Mozingo Lake Golf Course is scheduled for noon.
