The Trenton Middle School boys basketball program has achieved a historic milestone, completing its first-ever undefeated season in Trenton R-IX history. Both the A team (11-0) and B team (8-0) finished the season without a single loss, marking an extraordinary accomplishment for the players, coaches, and the entire school community.

Head Coach Travis Mullenix said, “It was an awesome season. Going undefeated was a goal from the beginning, but how the boys came together as a team and cheered each other on in games and practices was great to see as a coach. We had more talent this year from top to bottom than we have ever had, which made our practices very competitive. Having those types of practices helped tremendously in games because we were used to playing against good players in practice. It’s not easy to go undefeated… it’s the first TMS boys team to do so… and we played some very good teams this year.”

The A team was led by standout scorers:

Guy Gottman – 15.5 average points per game

Zeb Johnson – 11.5 average points per game

Chase Harris – 9.3 average points per game

Hudson Swank – 4 average points per game

Coach Mullenix added, “Even more difficult is for both the A and B teams to do it in the same season, but they were all very coachable and locked in. These kids should be very proud of what they were able to accomplish together. I really enjoyed their enthusiasm, competitiveness, and willingness to work hard day in and day out. If they keep it up, Trenton will have some very good high school teams in the future that are exciting to watch and win a lot of games.”

Assistant Coach Jeff Crowley said, “The B team season started with a couple of shortened two-quarter games; once we got into regular games, the boys played more relaxed and excellent basketball. We began winning games by double figures regularly. Since we had 14 kids dressed out for B games, many got multiple opportunities to play meaningful minutes because we could extend leads. The boys kept improving throughout the season. In the last week of the season, five players who had never scored in a TMS game broke through and scored their first baskets! I really enjoyed the undefeated results, but my greatest joy was watching them become better teammates and better players and get a taste of success as a reward for their hard work.”

With 7th graders returning and 6th graders moving up next year, the future looks bright for Trenton Middle School basketball. For now, these players can celebrate a season that will be remembered for years to come.
