DAR Honors Local Veterans, Receives Awards
The Dorcas Richardson Trenton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its regular monthly meeting on June 1.
Prior to the meeting, Ed Gates was honored as the DAR patriot of the month for June. Richard Guile was honored as the patriot of the month for July.
“Gates, an Army veteran, served his country from 1961 through 1964. He was awarded the expert marksman award,” reads an organization release. “Richard Guile, an Air Force veteran, served his county from 1959 through 1963. He was a security officer at Edwards Air Force Base and was a part of the X-15 Outer Space Flight Project.”
Both men continued served their communities after returning home from military service.
“The Daughters are grateful for our country’s veterans and active-duty military. It is a DAR tradition to honor and recognize these individuals through the Patriot of the Month Program,” reads the release.
In addition to honoring local patriots, during the June meeting, DAR members learned the chapter received several awards from the state conference. Awards received were a Received a Level I – Missouri Honor Roll Award, Service for Veteran Award, Community Classroom Award and a Service to American Award with the members volunteering 3,204 hours in 2025.
Service projects members are currently working on include a quilt project and aiding in the Tiny House Veteran Project.
DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, volunteer women’s service organization that promotes patriotism, education, historic preservation and community service. Women aged 18 or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in American independence are eligible for membership.
