Pirate Perspectives Podcast is a HigherEd PodCon excellence award nominee.
North Central Missouri College’s official podcast, “Pirate Perspectives,” has been nominated for a 2026 HigherEd PodCon Award, recognizing excellence and innovation in higher education podcasting.
Launched in 2025, “Pirate Perspectives” was created to highlight the people, programs and passions that make NCMC unique. Hosted by Nicole Shell, associate director of advising and retention, the podcast features conversations with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.
Topics have included academic programs, student success, campus life and college initiatives.
Since its launch, the podcast has featured episodes on NCMC’s Centennial celebration, dual credit and early college programs, nontraditional students, student employees, campus resources and more.
“We wanted to create another avenue to connect with people both on and off campus and share the stories happening every day at NCMC,” Jenna Stevens, director of enrollment management, said. “Pirate Perspectives gives listeners a more personal look at the individuals and experiences that shape our college community. It has been exciting to see the positive response and engagement from listeners.”
“I’ve truly enjoyed the opportunity to host Pirate Perspectives and connect with the incredible people who make NCMC such a special place,” Shell said. “This podcast has become an important platform for sharing authentic stories, celebrating student success and highlighting the experiences that shape our campus community. It’s an honor to see those efforts recognized.”
