NCMC Men’s Golf Heads To Nationals for First Time in Program History
The North Central Missouri College men’s golf team made program history this week, becoming the first team in school history to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
The Pirates competed at Bogey Creek Golf Course in Farmington in the NJCAA South Central District Championship, hosted by Mineral Area College, and the Region 16 Tournament. NCMC finished second behind Murray State College to earn one of two national tournament berths from the nine-team district. The Pirates also won the NJCAA Region 16 title for the first time since 2019.
NCMC opened with a team score of 299 to take the first-day lead. Kaleb Groomer led the Pirates with an even-par 72, followed by Alvaro Alegria with a 74, Dylan Groomer with a 76, Guillermo Gomez with a 77 and Jorge Gomez with a 78.
After weather delayed play Tuesday, the Pirates completed 34 holes Wednesday, posting team scores of 303 and 309 for a 54-hole total of 911. NCMC finished three strokes ahead of No. 19 Jackson College of Texas and host Mineral Area College.
Kaleb Groomer finished as district runner-up with a 219 and earned first-team all-region honors. Alegria earned second-team all-region honors with a 230.
NCMC will compete May 19-22 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana.
