Trenton Youth Wrestlers Qualify for State Tournament

The Trenton Youth Wrestling Club took 20 wrestlers to the Missouri USA Wrestling District 2 Tournament held March 7 in Excelsior Springs, with 14 athletes earning spots at the upcoming Missouri USA Folkstyle Wrestling Championships.

Competing against wrestlers from across the district, Trenton’s young Bulldogs battled throughout the day on the mats. The top four finishers in each age and weight division qualified for the state tournament. The Missouri USA Folkstyle Wrestling Championships will be held in Springfield, with boys competing March 13–14 and the girls’ divisions concluding the tournament on March 15.

Nine Trenton boys secured state tournament berths based on their district placings. Liam Grimes placed third in the 8U 60-pound division. Reed Rongey finished fourth in the 10U 65-pound division, while Kaiden McDowell captured first place in the 10U 100-pound division. Clayton Glidwell earned third place in the 12U 65-pound division, and Cooper Eaton finished fourth in the 12U 120-pound division. In the 12U 150-pound division, Wesley Stiles placed third and Sawyer Wilson finished fourth. Kynsen Bain earned second place in the 14U 135-pound division, and Noah Boyd placed third in the 14U 235-pound division.

Five Trenton girls also qualified to compete at the state tournament. Liza Curtis advanced in the 12U 130-pound division. Ally Miller won first place in the 14U 105-pound division, Arya Tyler finished fourth in the 14U 120-pound division, Aoife Graham captured first place in the 14U 150-pound division, and Braylee Barron earned first place in the 14U 195-pound division.

Coaches and supporters said they are proud of the athletes’ efforts and dedication throughout the season and are excited to see what the future holds for the program’s young wrestlers.
