TMS Announces Winners of Annual Spelling Bee

5th Grade- Abigail Troxel (Champion), Reed Rongey (2nd place), Cali Fantazia (Alternate)
6th Grade- Tyson Hunter (Champion), Mae Lasley (2nd place), Carson Beverlin (Alternate)
7th Grade- Aliyah Brittain (Champion), Barrett Johnson (2nd place), Jalia Webb (Alternate)
8th Grade- Anne Lasley (Champion), Mayson Howard (2nd place), Serena Birkhead (Alternate)

Trenton Middle School recognized top student spellers during its annual Spelling Bee held Wednesday, Jan. 21, with winners named in grades five through eight.
In the fifth-grade competition, Abigail Troxel earned first place by correctly spelling the winning word “quartz.” Reed Rongey placed second, and Cali Fantazia was named the alternate.
Tyson Hunter claimed first place in the sixth grade after spelling “signature” to secure the title. Mae Lasley finished second, while Carson Beverlin was selected as the alternate.
The seventh-grade Spelling Bee was won by Aliyah Brittain, whose winning word was “everest.” Barrett Johnson placed second, and Jalia Webb was named the alternate.
Anne Lasley took first place in the eighth-grade competition with the winning word “abysmal.” Mayson Howard earned second place, and Serena Birkhead was selected as the alternate.
The top two finishers from each grade level will advance to the Grundy County Spelling Bee, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. The competition will be held in the Performing Arts Center at Trenton High School and is open to the public.
