Community Members Unite to Help Alleviate Food Insecurity

Submitted

A group of citizens concerned about their friends and neighbors who may be struggling to put food on their table have organized to provide three shelf stable meal kits this weekend. Meal kits will include chicken and dumplings, ham chowder and chili and will include a recipe on how to use the ingredients in the kit.

The distribution, which is a drive thru event, will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 am Saturday, November 8 or until all meal kits are distributed at Hodge Presbyterian Church. Recipients should be Grundy County residents who are SNAP recipients, federal workers whose pay has been suspended or senior citizens in need.

Those seeking assistance are asked to enter the circle drive at Hodge Presbyterian Church from Cedar Street. Individuals are asked to remain in their vehicles while those staffing the event distribute meal kits. Each family will receive one of each of the three kits.

Organizers know that food insecurity brings an even greater level of stress to families. Having a complete meal kit will hopefully help alleviate a little of that stress for area residents if only for a few days. Questions can be directed to Kara Helmandollar at 660-359-5966.
