Bulldogs Hold Off Gallatin For 4-3 Win

Trenton scored three runs in the fifth inning and held off a late Gallatin rally to earn a 4-3 road softball win Monday, Oct. 5.

The teams each scored once in the first inning before three scoreless innings kept the game tied. Trenton broke the tie in the fifth, taking a 4-1 lead. Gallatin answered with two runs in the sixth, but the Bulldogs kept the home team scoreless in the seventh to secure the victory.

Emma Welch pitched a complete game for Trenton, allowing four hits and three earned runs over seven innings. Welch struck out six, walked one and threw 64 strikes in 96 pitches.

Makayla Mejia led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Welch and Lillian Ortega each doubled, drove in a run and scored once. Kimberly Clark tripled and scored a run, while Betsy Price added a hit, an RBI and a sacrifice.

Claire Woodard and Morgan Smith each contributed a hit, with Smith also scoring. Sydney Blackburn walked and stole two bases.

Trenton finished with nine hits and two walks, leaving seven runners on base. The Bulldogs committed three errors, while Gallatin played an error-free game and stranded three runners.

The Bulldogs took on the La Plata Invitational this past week on Oct. 3, coming home as back-to-back tournament champions.

The team was 10-10 on the season before playing North Harrison on Tuesday, Oct. 6. As of press time, results were unavailable.

The team takes on Putnam County on Thursday, Oct. 8 and Chillicothe on Monday, Oct. 12.
