North Central Missouri College’s First Gen Club is beginning the 2026–27 academic year with new student officers and an open invitation for students to join.

“The First Gen Club provides an opportunity for first-generation college students and their friends to connect with one another, build community and celebrate their college experiences together,” reads a release about the club. “The club also gives students opportunities to participate in fun activities and events throughout the year.”

This year’s First Gen Club officers are President Shelby Henley, Vice President Michael Turner and Treasurer Hulita Amone.

The club is currently accepting new members and welcomes students who identify as first-generation college students, as well as their friends. No previous club experience is needed, and students do not have to hold a leadership position to get involved.

“The First Gen Club is all about creating a place where students can meet others who understand what it is like to be the first in their family to go to college,” said Angela Heins, TRIO SSS assistant director. “We want students to know that they have a community here at NCMC and that they don’t have to do college alone.”

Upcoming First Gen Club meetings will be held in GH104 (Student Support Services) at 2 p.m. on Oct. 15 and Nov. 19.

The club plans to celebrate the fall season with Halloween-themed activities in October and a Christmas-themed activity in November. The club also plans to celebrate First Gen Day with a special campus event this year. Last year, the club celebrated with root beer floats in Geyer Hall.
